Essential oil
From www.plantsasmedicine.com
Essential oils are plant oils that are completely volatile, that is, they can completely evaporate, if given the right opportunity. After their evaporation, no oil residue is left over, since all components of the oil easily vaporize.
Essential oils are usually purified from plant material via steam distillation. There are exceptions, such as orange essential oil, which is pressed from orange peel itself. Other citrus oils can be squeezed from the corresponding fruit peels as well.
Vaporization of essential oils can be a method of delivering plant medicinal compounds to people and other animals.
Essential oil of cinnamon contains large amounts of caryophyllene, an organic compound which has antiinflammatory properties.
Many essential oils are natural insect repellents. Eucalyptus oil[1] and cinnamon oil are examples of essential oils that repel mosquitos.
